Things are starting to wind down at my current job. I start with the new one on Feb 10. I’ve had some time after work to do ‘hobby stuff’.

I learned to crochet when I was young and picked it up again a few months back. I then decided that I wanted to learn knitting because of the climate we are in where we live now. There’s a lot more weather appropriate things that one can make with knitting.

It took me quite some time before I was able to pick up knitting. I couldn’t get the grip right and it was just frustrating me. I bought all different kinds of sticks and nothing worked.

Then just before Christmas break, I discovered Tunisian crochet and did a detour making a scarf with that. When I finished the project, I went back to knitting and found it much easier. I think my brain just needed some time to figure out the right technique.

My first ever completed knitting project was a sweater for Marilyn. I was making a crochet top for Celyn and the sweater became boring in comparison in terms of the finished product.

So now I’m working on a dress for Marilyn. It’s using really fine yarn so I think it will take me some time to finish. To be honest, it’s become really boring because it’s going to be the same stitch for a while till I have made a certain height for the dress. I’ve have to commit to at least doing 5 rounds a day just to make sure I actually make some progress everyday.

The good thing about it is having the focus and thinking time. I guess it’s the equivalent of taking a drive or a walk to think. Knitting time is thinking time.

So recently I’ve had some time to start thinking about things. I know I’m very excited about my new job. I think I will learn a lot, not just in terms of the technical knowledge but industry knowledge as well. I’m looking forward to talk about it more later.

I have also gotten to thinking that maybe I should spend a bit more time developing DiggyBank. It’s a project that started out as a learning exercise. We’ve been using it at home with the kids and I think we’re ready for more features!

Just like my 5 rounds a day commitment for knitting this infinite dress, I need something that will move this project forward even just a little bit every day. As with all my projects, I feel overwhelmed whenever I start to look at it. There’s so many things I want to do and I get lost in the planning and don’t even get started with the coding.

Maybe I need another round of focused knitting so I can think more about it.
