Project: Paper Pencil Pen

2 of my 3 kids love to draw, and the only reason that’s not 100% is because the last one is only 1 year old. I think it is great that they are being so creative, but i just wish we could minimize paper use just a liiiittle bit. Think of the trees….. If I could cut their paper use in half I’d be happy.

I thought about which apps I can get the kids to use: Artrage, Fresh Paint, Bamboo Paper, Paper by Fifty Three and so much more.  I actually liked Paper by 53 before when it was really basic but i think they have developed their app a lot since then and while it is now really good, I think it has become a little bit complicated. Of course it depends on what you want to use things for and each app has their strengths. Bamboo Paper is probably the level of simplicity I am looking at. They also have a nice selection of brushes. What I would really want though is for the eraser tool to work on just pencil strokes. For all other things, you can still undo. I think it would be a great way to ease kids into digital art without losing concepts of real world art. It would be great if these art apps continue to develop how the different brushes interact with each other. Paper by Fifty Three was the first app i even saw that did this, but I feel the eraser was given just too much power.

Because I couldn’t find an app that did exactly what I wanted, I thought I’d dust off Visual Studio and build an app myself. You can check out Paper Pencil Pen (i know, it’s such a creative name) on the Microsoft Store here
